Fructose vs Cancer

Fructose is a simple sugar that occurs naturally in fruits, vegetables, fruit and vegetable juices, and honey. It is also widely used as a sweetener in foods and beverages. When fructose is joined to glucose, sucrose is formed. Sucrose, often referred to as cane sugar, is commonly found in sugar cane, sugar beets, corn, and other plants.

All cells in the body, whether healthy and cancerous, use sugar as an energy source. Sugar is needed by the body to form DNA, which is composed of long chains of deoxyribose sugar. The digestive system breaks down complex carbohydrates in grains and vegetables into simple sugars, which the cells use as a source of energy.

Eliminating all sugar from a cancer patient's diet harms healthy cells that need energy to function. In addition, according to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, there is no conclusive research on human subjects to prove that sugar makes cancer cells grow and spread.

Eating sugar does not necessarily lead to cancer. However, excessive calories from sugar lead to a bigger waistline, which can lead to an increased cancer risk over time.

Experts recommend eating a balanced, plant-based diet and limiting the amount of sugar and calories in one's diet.
